About A. W. Crooks Plumbing & Heating

AW Crook Plumbing & Heating

Our founder Arthur W. Crooks was born in Goshen, Indiana in 1885 and moved to Sturgis, Michigan as a young boy. Because he was top of his senior year, he was offered a scholarship to Hillsdale College, but was unable to attend due to financial problems. He taught at a school in Colon, Michigan, and moved to Battle Creek in 1907 to take up plumbing.

In 1909 he became the inspector of plumbing for the town of Battle Creek, but returned to plumbing in 1911 by working for Hanchett Plumbing, which he eventually bought in 1912. At that time his wages were 12 1/2 cents an hour.

Arthur's children, Helen, Walt, and Warren, all worked in the plumbing business. Helen and Warren continued to run the company from the mid-1950s to March 1980. It is now owned and operated by Arthur's grandson, Arthur W. Crooks II.

At A.W. Crooks Plumbing &Heating, Inc. We provide efficient sewer repairs in Battle Creek, MI and nearby areas. Part of our commitment as the top plumber in the area is to offer a comprehensive range of plumbing solutions to suit every need and budget. When it comes to quality plumbing work in Battle Creek, our plumbers are the experts you can trust.

Signs that you need a sewer repair

Wear and tear can be considered the most common cause of duct problems, but note that corrosion and other causes can also be the cause. You will need professional sewer repair services later. We recommend regular maintenance to ensure duct damage does not occur sooner than expected. Once your sewer pipes are corroded, they can become too fragile to function in peak condition. Outdated materials can eventually lead to leaking or cracked sewer pipes. Contact us immediately if you notice the following warning signs:

  • Low water pressure
  • Water runs even when switched off
  • Strange noises or foul smells coming from your pipes
  • Unpleasant sewage or mold smells
  • leaks
  • Higher than usual water bills
  • Slow drains
  • Persistent constipation

As your trusted plumbing company, we first perform a sewer camera inspection to help us pinpoint the location and severity of the problem. With the help of our high-resolution camera, we can also determine the best solution for your sewer pipe repair and avoid similar problems in the future. Our sewer inspections also allow us to confirm the exact pipeline that needs to be excavated.

Reasons you may need a duct replacement

Due to the large amount of work that a sewage system for a home has to do every day, a sewer line is designed to be very durable. A copper pipe, today the main material for pipe construction, should last for decades.

However, if you have a pipe made from older material, such as Galvanized steel (common for homes built before 1970) or cast iron (homes older than WWII) will eventually corrode and ruin the sewer line. If you have a home this vintage, you should seriously consider replacing the sewer line now before the inevitable deterioration sets in.

But copper pipes may also need to be replaced. Ground movement can stress and crack the pipe, chemicals from within can cause certain types of corrosion that attack copper, and intrusion by tree roots can cause serious damage. It's about replacing the pipe rather than repairing it.

Why you need a professional channel replacement

You only have to consider the length of your sewer line and the depth at which it is buried to understand why neither you nor a home plumber can hope to replace the line yourself. But there's more to drain line replacement than just hiring licensed plumbers. You should look for a company that offers trenchless sewer replacement. This is a technology that bypasses the traditional but slow and destructive method of opening a large trench across the property to access the pipe. Trenchless technology only needs to dig one of two small holes, and the process takes hours instead of days to complete.

Water in the basement can be a frustrating transition for homeowners. Trust your local plumbers at A.W. Crooks Plumbing &Heating, Inc. to keep your basement dry. We know the importance of a dry home and we are here to find the best sump pumping solutions in Battle Creek MI. and the surrounding areas. We specialize in pump maintenance, repair and installation. Many homeowners struggle with a flooded basement, and A.W. Crooks Plumbing & Heating, Inc. engineers know how difficult this is to deal with. It's important to deal with wet basements immediately, as water can cause costly damage to your property and require major repairs. Any moisture in your basement can cause mold and mildew growth, which can also cause serious damage and pose health risks.

What is a sump pump?

Sump pumps are installed in basements to remove water from the room to prevent flooding and wet weather. The pump removes water from the low-lying areas of your home to keep those areas primed and reduce the risk of harmful bacteria growing.

What are the signs that my sump pump is not working?

While it takes an expert to understand everything about your plumbing system, you can also do your part to address the problem before it gets worse. Water that isn't draining properly could be due to a lack of power in the sump pump or a malfunction in your pump. If your sump pump is not running or is running without water, then you have a problem. This could be a sign that a switch is stuck or your machine was not installed properly. It is important to fix this immediately as it can cause flooding. A whining, groaning, grinding, gurgling, or rattling sound is an indication that your sump pump is not working properly and needs to be repaired or replaced. Bad smells are also a sign that something is wrong. Rust on your sump pump is a sign of aging, so it's important to keep a close eye on your pump to avoid flooding or failure.

If you notice any of these warning signs with your sump pump, it's important to contact A.W. Plumbing & Heating, Inc. immediately. Our installers are highly qualified and experienced to prevent further damage to your home or sump pumps.

We are installers you can trust to thoroughly inspect your sump pump, accurately diagnose any problems and discuss all your options with you before making any repairs. We work with the best sump pump manufacturers to keep your system in optimal condition. Give us a call or fill out our online form today to discuss your sump pump with a member of our team. A courteous and professional service awaits you from start to finish.

Figuring out which type of water heater meets your needs can be difficult. Because how high is your hot water requirement? How many family members live in your household? do you have guests What large appliances do you have that draw hot water during operation? Questions like these come to the fore when you're outfitting your home with a new water heater. We can help you navigate through the different systems on offer, taking into account your hot water usage and budget when recommending a water heater for installation. Here are some important options.

Panzer

The tank water heater has been the number one choice for many years. If you are looking for an inexpensive system that will give you an ample supply, then this system will work just fine. Today's systems have significantly improved efficiencies than their predecessors.

Tankless

As the name suggests, a tankless water heater is a system that dispenses with the use of a storage tank to heat your water supply on demand. This means it only heats the water you need, rather than keeping a supply on hand. There is virtually no delay and the system can very well pay for itself in the years to come.

Hybrid

A hybrid water heater either combines a tank with a tankless unit to give you a balance of performance and efficiency, or it indicates the use of a heat pump mechanism inside the tank that uses the ambient air around the tank to allocate your water supply heat. Both types are highly efficient.

Professional water heater installation service

At A.W. Plumbing & Heating, Inc. we can help you choose between the various options in the market today. And you will indeed need help. One of the most important factors when purchasing a new water heater for installation is the match between the system's hot water capacity and your household's estimated hot water consumption. A system that is too powerful can lead to inefficiency and higher energy bills, while a smaller system falters if your family showers multiple times or you run multiple appliances at the same time.

Repair of water heaters

Whenever you step into the shower and turn on the hot water faucet, expect a copious amount of temperature-controlled water coming in through the spigot above you. The same goes for throwing in a load of laundry or running your dishwasher after a dinner party. But it's important to realize that your water heater isn't just going to run indefinitely.

reflux

Backflow can sometimes be confused with backflow from a clog, but the word backflow actually describes a situation where a cross-connection has occurred: your home's safe drinking water has come into contact with sewage. When you hire the plumbing professionals at A.W. Crooks Plumbing & Heating, Inc. to install, repair, replace and maintain anti-backflow components in your home, you can reduce or even eliminate the possibility of backflow problems.

They will therefore prevent sprinklers and water irrigation from getting back into your drinking water. Reflux is a serious problem and should be addressed immediately. Our plumbing professionals are available for emergency calls, so if you're dealing with a backflow issue, give us a call today.

RPZ backflow preventer

RPZ valves, also known as pressure-reduced zone valves, are backflow preventers specially designed for commercial and industrial buildings. This type of valve is particularly important for food processing, hospitality, brewing and distilling plants, car washes and hotels. One of the features that differentiates an RPZ valve from a normal backflow preventer is that RPZ valves must be tested annually by an RPZ accredited inspector. The sanitary professionals from A.W. Crooks Plumbing & Heating, Inc. are accredited RPZ testers and as such we can install, repair, replace or service RPZ valves for your commercial or industrial space.

What causes reflux?

One of the main causes of a backwater problem is a problem with the municipal water supply. In such a case, the problem isn't your home, but you still need to have your system checked by an expert and remove any contaminants that have entered your home's plumbing system, faucets, and appliances.

However, this is mainly about your drinking and drinking water. Installing our backflow preventers helps protect drinking water from backflow caused by sprinkler and irrigation systems. Improper protection with a backflow preventer can result in contamination, which can lead to health and safety issues.

We offer backflow prevention services

A backflow problem is considered an emergency because of the serious problems that contaminated water can pose to your home or business. We can help you with any type of backwater issue day or night, so give us a call as soon as you notice a backwater problem on your property or if you are concerned about the risks in your drinking and drinking water.
